San Juan County Fire Department has a fully staffed and qualified maintenance shop that maintains approximately 130 pieces of fire apparatus within 5500 square miles. The maintenance shop has three mechanics and one shop manager. The maintenance shop operates under the highest safety standards while performing daily tasks and duties.

 Some of the duties that entail the maintenance shop include:

  • Performs annual inspections and pump tests on all Class I engines
  • Performs annual inspections on all support vehicles
  • Performs general maintenance and repair on all apparatus
  • Maintains all breathing air cascade units at the individual fire stations while also submitting annual air quality samples for testing
  • Maintains all communication tower site generators
  • Responds to large scale incidents in case of immediate repair
  • Maintains a reserve fleet of apparatus to supplement the districts when their main piece of apparatus is in the shop
  • Builds custom brush trucks for all fire districts
  • The maintenance shop also maintains a fully functional pump test pit that is utilized by other regional fire departments
